"Yo Yo" Orotina Tolls

On Wednesday morning it was announced that the tolls on the road to Caldera at Orotina would be begin at 12:01am Thursday.

Late Wednesday night, the ministra de Obras Públicas y Transportes, Karla González announced that she was suspending indefinitely all tolls at Orotina. But, now they will go into effect at 12:00am Saturday morning, or at midnight tonight.

The ministra said that the road concessionaire, Autopistas del Sol, had not sufficiently notified the area residents of the beginning of the ¢480 colones for passenger vehicles and ¢950 for buses tolls.

While area residents complained the lack of an alternate route and proper signage and road safety in the area.

The ministra said she met with residents on Thursday and promised a number of changes, include a pedestrian bridge, an alternate route and completion of the all the road signs and safety designs of the road.

Following the meeting, the ministra rescinded the suspension order and as such tolls will begin on Saturday.
