Eating a
Sanjaya Sandwich with Stephen Baldwin of I'm
a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!
by Troy Rogers, thedeadbolt.com
After becoming a frontrunner to walk away as
the sole Costa Rican celebrity survivor on
NBC's I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!,
actor Stephen Baldwin fell victim to the
unexpected competition of not only his
fellow celebrity tribe mates but also the
heat of the jungle.
Although Stephen became the last Baldwin
standing after fans handed his brother
Daniel celebrity walking papers only weeks
before, the heat of celebrity surviving in
Costa Rica became too much and the former
Fear Factor champ took himself out of the
game.
Despite being favored to win I'm a Celebrity
Get Me Out of Here!, Stephen faced some
unexpected yet stiff competition from former
American Idol contestant, Sanjaya Malakar,
who Baldwin originally took lightly as a
celebrity competitor.
After catching up with Stephen on a
conference call to follow up on his
voluntary celebrity exit, Baldwin gave
credit where credit was due when it came to
Sanjaya who outlasted most of the surviving
celebs. As well, Stephen also shared his
thoughts on who he thinks will walk away
with the I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!
title of "Queen of the Jungle".
THE DEADBOLT: So was this tougher than Fear
Factor?
[Stephen Baldwin] STEPHEN BALDWIN: Oh, this
was way, way beyond anything that I ever did
before. I mean, I lost 22lbs over 18 days
and that's a fact when you only have a cup
of rice and beans for breakfast, a cup of
rice and beans for lunch, and then a meal
that you share with everybody that's kind of
a regular meal.
But it's probably ... If you went out to go
get a normal dinner at a restaurant, it
still only amounts to one third of what
you'd normally eat with an appetizer,
dessert, and all of that. It's way more
difficult. That coupled with the fact that
the elements themselves, like being in the
jungle and the downpour of the rain, being
in the rain forest; I mean, all of it was
just really way more wild than I
anticipated.
THE DEADBOLT: I talked to you and Janice
before the show started, and I'm going to
make you eat your words a little bit, but
you didn't think Sanjaya was going to make
it.
[Stephen Baldwin] BALDWIN: [laughs] I know,
dude. I was so totally eating my Sanjaya hat
there. I thought homeboy was going to punk
on us in the first five minutes. It turns
out that he has this little hidden kind of
Mowgli vibe going on that nobody could've
anticipated.
THE DEADBOLT: Who do you think is the
strongest one now, Torrie?
BALDWIN: Well, again, you know, ultimately
it's going to be up to the American viewing
public. But my guess is going to be either
Lou Diamond or Torrie are going to finish. I
love Lou, but Torrie is a buddy of mine. I
know her fiance and his best friend is one
of my best friends, so I think Torrie would
be an outstanding 'Queen of the Jungle'.
Editor's note: Lou Diamon Phillips was
crowned "King of the Jungle" On Wednesday
night during the broadcast of the final
show.
