Apprehended Assailant Had To Pay His Own Way To The Police Station

From the unbelievable and unusual department comes the story of how a criminal had to pay the taxi fare to be escorted back to the police station after a visit to the hospital under police guard.

It all occurred to a street thug who was injured while being arrested by police and was taken to the hospital San Juan de Dios to attend to his injuries before being escorted to the jail cell at the Barrio Mexico police station.

The incident occurred at a little after 6am, when officer Tomas Romero, called dispatch for a "perrera"  (paddy wagon) and none came.

The officer, after many calls to dispatch and no transport coming, decided to take his collar to the station by taxi, fearing reprisals if he hung around the hospital too long.

With his hands cuffed, the man identified as Gutiérrez Sirias rode in the taxi with the officer. Upon arrival at the station, the officer did not have a colon in his pocket and it was up to the Gutiérrez to pay the taxi fare.

Of course, no one at the station pitied him, apologized or offered to reimburse him, for after all, he was the one going about downtown San Jose assaulting  and robbing people.
