Sought For Costa Rica Medical Mission
A team of Vandenberg Air Force Base medical
specialists heading to Costa Rica this
spring hopes to hand out school supplies
along with new or gently used sports
equipment.
The team, made up of members of Vandenberg’s
30th Medical Group plus specialists from
Lackland AFB in Texas and Bolling AFB in the
District of Columbia, will set up temporary
clinics in several Costa Rican schools.
This is believed to be the first
full-medical-specialty-team from the United
States allowed into Costa Rica, according to
Air Force officials.
Working with Costa Rican medical
professionals, the Vandenberg Airmen will
provide both basic and specialty care to
people living in remote areas of Costa Rica.
In preparation for the medical humanitarian
mission, Vandenberg has begun collecting
supplies for Costa Rican children and put a
plea out to the broader Central Coast
community.
Off-base sites to drop off donated new
school supplies, or new or lightly used
sports equipment, are at the Santa Maria
Valley or Lompoc Valley chambers of
commerce.
The Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce is at
614 S. Broadway, while the Lompoc Chamber of
Commerce is at 111 South I St.
All donations should be left in the original
packaging and not gift-wrapped.
At Vandenberg, collection boxes for
donations are set up at the 30th Medical
Group and the Base Chapel.
Donations will be collected only through the
end of March since they must be shipped to
Costa Rica in early April. |
