Caribbean On
Yellow Alert As Heavy Rains
Cause First Floods of The Season
In a matter of three days the average amount
of rain for the entire month of May fell on
the Caribbean coast of Limón, experiencing
the first floods of the rainy season.
Authorities sau that during 36 hours enough
rain fell on Limón to provoke flooding of
the streets and homes.
The Comisión Nacional de Emergencia (CNE) -
national emergency commission - has declared
a "yellow" alert for the areas of Limón and
Sarapiquí, despite the rains have subsided
for the time being.
The president of the CNE, Vanessa Rosales,
said that although the rains have calmed
down, the alert for Limón will continue as
part of a protocol to activate emergency
committees into action and to supply the
area with supplies to the area in the event
they are required.
The CNE head added that they are closely
monitoring river levels in the area.
