CARICOM, SICA for Prague Results
Prague
- The Caribbean
Community (CARICOM) and the Central American
Integration System (SICA) reiterated hopes
for concrete agreements and commitment at
the ministerial European Union-Rio Group
Conference.
CARICOM's basic objectives aim at climate
change, particularly to avoid deforestation
and encourage technological
development of alternative, sustainable
sources of energy.
Meanwhile, SICA gives particular importance
to renewable energy, economy, and
environmental protection, including the
prevention of natural disasters.
The Caribbean Community, with 15 members and
only three as full members of the Rio Group,
presents its concerns through Guyanese
ambassador Elizabeth Harper, who told Prensa
Latina it is the right time to bring those
affairs forward.
For his part, Nicaraguan Deputy Foreign
Minister Valdrac Jaenscjtke ratified SICA's
intention to promote "a framework allowing
us to enlarge cooperation and investment
projects in those issues."
The 14th Ministerial Conference of the EU
and Rio Group was inaugurated today in
Prague, with speeches highlighting the
importance of cooperation, while giving a
good welcome to Cuba. |
