Former Tourism Minister Once Again Caught Drunk Behind The Wheel

Former ministro de Turismo Walter Niehaus doesn't seem to be learning the lesson that drinking and driving do not mix and in Costa Rica it will land you in jail.

Once again the former minister was found on Sunday morning to be driving intoxicated in the area of Chomes on the Interamericana.

The last time Niehaus was picked up was on Avenida 10 in San Jose, when at that time he slammed into three parked cars. That time, like several others times before, all he got is a traffic ticket.

However, this time, the former minister and former president of the Federación de Fútbol (soccer federation) was taken to the Puntarenas hospital for a blood test to corroborate the roadside breathalyzer test.

He was held in the local jail before being released with a court date, facing a criminal trial, and had his vehicle confiscated, all part of the tougher measures under the new Ley de Transito that has gotten tough on drunk drivers.
