El Salvador Groups Back Cuba
San Salvador - El Salvador has currently
over 20 solidarity committees with Cuba and
expects to renew diplomatic relations
between the two countries, a leader from the
solidarity Coordinating Committee stated.
Alfredo Tovar, from the executive of that
organization, told Prensa Latina
President-Elect Mauricio Funes and the
Farabundo Marti Front for National
Liberation already announced their decision
to normalize diplomatic links.
This progressive government, to take office
June 1, is a result of the struggle carried
out by Salvadorians, who have always
supported the Cuban Revolution, he noted.
Tovar recalled several activities in the
country including criticism of the US
blockade on the island, and a demand for the
immediate release of the five Cuban
anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned
in the United States.
These committees are now preparing the
Second National Congress of Solidarity with
Cuba, from July 24-26. University students,
professionals, youth organizations, and
women will support this event.
This historic change comes after the
relentless struggle of the FMLN and the
people, Tovar concluded.
