Munis Cannot Ban Sale Of Fireworks
The Tribunal Contencioso Administrativo y
Civil de Hacienda ruled yesterday that the
sale of "pólvora" (gunpowder) or fireworks
is legal and municipalities (munis) who
impede sales are violating constitutional
rights, according to Dagoberto Calvo,
general manager of , Fuegos Artificiales
Internacionales Custodio Calvo Faisa.
Calvo said that that today's products are
100% safe if and when instructions for their
use is followed to the letter.
The problem and the reason for the ban by
many municipalities is the manufacturing of
fireworks that do not meet safety standards
and result in numerous injuries each year,
especially in children and youth.
Calvo added that for the product to be
entirely safe it should mee the ISO9002
standards of of quality and well as the
quality controls established by the European
Union countries and the US.
Although the Tribunal Contencioso
Administrativo y Civil de Hacienda has ruled
that municipalities cannot ban the sale of
fireworks, it is important to note that the
sale of fireworks that do not meet
government standards and controls continue
to be illegal and dangerous.
The use of fireworks in private homes is a
tradition for Christmas and news year's
celebrations.
