Chavez Slams Colombian Border Provocations

CARACAS - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez denounced on Sunday provocations by the Colombian government on the common border with the support of the local opposition media.

According to the statesman, the provocative campaign follows the reaction of Bogota after Venezuela destroyed illegal border passages used for drug trafficking and smuggling.

Colombian authorities are allegedly claiming the Bolivarian National Guard destroyed international bridges.

Chavez also slashed out at the Venezuelan opposition for backing up the campaign orchestrated in Bogota.

Venezuela and Colombia are at odds over Bogota's decision to grant the US access to seven of its military bases.

Chavez and other Latin American leaders have warned that the US presence in Colombia is a threat for regional peace and stability.
