No UN Observer to Honduran Elections
UNITED NATIONS - The United Nations will not send observers
to elections called by the de facto regime
in Honduras on Sunday, an official spokesman
confirmed.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon's official
spokesman Farhan Haq told Prensa Latina that
the organization will have no role in the
polls.
The United Nations is not involved
whatsoever in the Honduran elections next
weekend, he said in response to a question
about an eventual presence of UN observers
in the Central American countries.
On Tuesday, through another spokesperson,
Ban Ki-Moon expressed concern for what he
considered a lack of consensus to solve the
political crisis in Honduras a few days
before the announced elections.
The UN Chief has always backed a solution
agreed by consensus to the conflict in the
Central American country, UN spokeswoman
Michele Montas said.
Other important international player,
including OAS and the Spanish Government,
have already announced that they will not
send observers to the Honduran polls.
Brazil, Venezuela, Paraguay and other Latin
American countries warned that they will not
recognize the election results, while the
United States already proclaimed its support
to the polls organized by the putschists. |
