Costa Rica to Increase Banana
Production For 2010
Costa Rican banana producers will increase
harvest 23 percent for 2010, informed a
report of the Corporación Bananera Nacional
(CORBANA) - National Banana Corporation
- explaining that workers prepare for a
harvest of 1,928 million tons, 380,000 more
than in 2009.
According to the Corporation, a favorable
climate is predicted that allows better
productivity as well as collection of 107
million boxes for the product with a
capacity of 18 kilograms each.
For their part, promoters of foreign trade
informed that during the year exports
demonstrate a positive rhythm with a growth
of 28 percent as compared the previous
period.
Costa Rican authorities also expressed
optimism over an improvement of banana
prices in the markets of Europe, also known
as the Viejo Continente (Old Continent)
after reaching of an agreement between
Central America and the European Union.
Costa Rica has 43,784 hectares planted with
bananas one of the main export product of
the country.
