Panama Customs Reports Windfall Revenues in 2010

PANAMA -  The Panamanian Customs National authority collected 213 million dollars in customs taxes, informed official sources.

According to this institution the March period studied was the largest with 82 million dollars followed by January (68 million) and the remainder of February.

The most significant source was taxation on imports that registered 93 million dollars (44.2 percent of the total).

Customs performance in the Northern Zone (province of Colon) collected 110 million dollars followed by the Eastern region that includes the province of Panama and followed by the Central region.

These forecasts set by the institution for 2010 point to an annual collection of 900 million dollars based on an economic growth of 4.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
