The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad
(ICE) announced that it will begin selling
"prepaid" SIM card on April 19. The state
telecom says it is making available 100.00
GSM lines for the prepaid service.
ICE says it estimates that some 80.000
prepaid lines sold quickly, as it meets
demand. However, at first, only those on a
waiting list will be given priority.
The GSM chips will come in prepaid amounts
of ˘2.500, ˘5.000 and ˘10.000 colones. Users
can "reload" the chips with additional
amounts to meet their needs.
The prepaid chips will be available at some
16.000 points of sale that include
supermarkets, pharmacies, banks etc.
However, as is typical of ICE, only
nationals and legal residents can purchase
the prepaid SIM chips. |
