Colombia Church For
Government-Guerrilla Talk
BOGOTA - The secretary of the
Colombian Episcopal Conference, monsignor
Juan Vicente Cordoba, stated Thursday that
dialogue and agreement are the only way to
solve existing differences between the
government and the guerrilla.
In statements to local press, Cordoba called
upon the opposing parties to give in to
begin negotiations leading to an exchange of
prisoners. "Dialogue and agreement are the
only way out, because violence engenders
more violence, and agreement leads to
peace," he said when pointing out the recent
unilateral releases by the Revolutionary
Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) corroborated
so.
Cordoba thus referred to the liberations of
Pablo Emilio Moncayo, yesterday, and Josue
Daniel Calvo, on Sunday.
He noted the opposed sides must negotiate
with the premise of reaching agreements
enabling a humanitarian exchange, in views
of a peace process.
The Catholic Church favors the solution of
problems through dialogues, he stressed. |
