8 Miners Killed In Southwest
Colombia
BOGOTA - Eight Colombian miners were killed
by gunmen in rural areas of Suarez
municipality, a local military commander
said on Thursday.
The commander of the 3rd Division of the
Army said unidentified armed men shot 10
miners after demanding they stop the gold
research in an illegal mine.
Eight miners were killed, one miner was
injured while another was missing.
"This event is related to coexistence,
because this small mining practice has made
people of other regions seek economic
benefits here, causing these kinds of
clashes for disputed working places," the
commander said.
According to him, the killing was due to
coexistence problem between the miners
coming from Choco department in northwest
Colombia.
