President-Elect Chinchilla Says Honduras Should Be Allowed Back To OAS

Costa Rica's president-elect Laura Chinchilla while on tour of Central America said on Monday that Honduras should be allowed to return to the Organization of American States (OAS) as quickly as possible.

Doña Laura, who takes office on May 8, said her government would be willing to lobby on the issue.

Honduran President Porfirio Lobo has also restarted integration talks with neighboring Nicaragua, which strongly supported former President Manuel Zelaya after he was ousted in the 2009 coup, which saw the suspension of Honduras from the OAS.

Chinchilla met Monday with Lobo, who was elected in November to replace Zelaya and took office in January.
