Arias With Tears In His Eyes While Visiting Former Public School

Nostalgia overtook the emotions of the Costa Rican president, Oscar Arias, during a visit of the public school República Argentina, the school he attended as a boy some 50 years ago.

The prez was seen with tears in his eyes during the visit in his province of birth, Heredia.

"This is were I dared say for the first time in my life that I wanted to be president some day", said Arias in a soft voice.

Arias told the audience of his memories of his mother saying goodbye to him every morning when left for school, later visiting the market and his memories of his teacher, Olga Camacho, who was at his side during the visit.

The school is now part of Costa Rica's patrimony, declared an historical and arquitectural site in 1987 by Arias himself during his first term as president.
