Despite the
ruling of
Constitucional
Court
(Constitutional
Court) on Friday
that gave the go
ahead for the
open pit mining
at Crucitas,
near San Carlos,
environmentalists
were quick with
a new action to
temporary
paralyzes work
at the mine.
Again.
Environmentalists
have now turned
to the Tribunal
Contencioso
Administrativo,
effectively
halting the
project to at
least Wednesday.
The action bars
Infinito, the
owner of the
mine, from
cutting down any
trees and work
on
infrastructure
until the
Tribunal hears
the petition.
The temporary
work stoppage is
only good for
three working
days, allowing
time for
environmentalists
to state their
position and
request for
suspension of
the mine.
Infinito on
Friday applauded
the high court
decision and
said that "Crucitas
would be a model
example of
modern open pit
mining". The
company says it
is committed to
a policy of
social
responsibility
and sustained
environment.

Infinto, assured
that the company
will heed to the
temporary work
stoppage order.
Environmentalist
groups around
the Crucitas
vowed to double
their efforts to
stop the mining
and would turn
to protests to
make their point
heard..
