Hidden Cash At
Border Crossing
Lands Pair In
Jail
Carrying
us$600.000
dollars hidden
in their car
after crossing
from Nicaragua
to Costa Rica,
has landed a
Costa Rican and
a Colombian in
jail for four
months, while
investigators
try to piece the
puzzle together.

The men,
identified only
by the last
names, Cháves
Camacho (Costa
Rican) and
Tellez Lapezco
(Colombian), had
in the roof
liner of their
vehicle 22 small
packets wrapped
in black
plastic.
The Nissan
Patrol was
stopped at a
regular patrol
control post
along the
highway in Los
Chiles
(Alajuela) in
the area known
as Medio Queso,
close to the
Nicaraguan
border.
Police stopping
the vehicle
decided to make
a real close
inspection that
led them to the
haul.
Speculation is
that the men
were going to
use the cash to
make a drug buy
in Costa Rica
and if convicted
will be be
spending some
years in a Costa
Rican prison.
