Women's Murders Increase in
Guatemala
GUATEMALA - Guatemala's official and social
entities disagree on the number of
Guatemalan women killed this year in a
violent way, but they do agree it has
increased uncontrollably.
The National Civil Police reported 154
assassinations until April 5, while the
Human Rights Office said to have registered
173 by the end of March.
The latest includes the 64 murders occurred
in March, the deadliest month ever recorded
since the Network against Women's Violence
began registering those figures in 2001.
A report by the Human Rights Office
criticizes the police's inefficiency to cope
with those events, and explains that 717
cases have remained unsolved since 2009,
with some of them already filed.
