Ortega Keeps Chinchilla Waiting

More than an hour later waiting around in the Nicaraguan Air Force base, located adjacent to the the Aeropuerto Augusto César Sandino in Managua, president-elect, Laura Chinchilla, waited around for Nicaraguan president, Daniel Ortega, to show up to officially greet her arrival.

The meeting had been scheduled for 5pm, but it was well past 6pm when Ortega made his appearance to receive Chinchilla to Nicaragua, where they proceeded to the Casa de Gobierno, to hold bilateral talks.

The Ortega delayed is being blamed on his late arrival from Venezuela where he was taking part in the Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América (ALBA) meeting.

Both leaders agreed that there are "controversial points" to iron between the countries, among which include the development of a toursim industry along the Costa Rica - Nicaragua border.

Chinchilla said Nicaraguans in Costa Rica are hard working, many responsible for taking care of "our homes and our children", referring to the large amount of maids in Costa Rica from Nicaragua, and for the construction of buildings and farming, which includes a high number of Nicaraguans in the work force in those sectors.

The meeting had been scheduled for last week's Chinchilla's tour of Central America, but postponed due to last minute travel problems.

Chinchilla also took the opportunity to personally invite Ortega and his wife, Rosario Murillo, to her inauguration ceremony on May 8.

Nicaragua is the only Central American country yet to reply to confirm attendance.
