Drunk Driver Who
Killed Cyclist
Out On Bail
The drunk driver
responsible for
the death of
cyclist
Christopher Lang
last March 14 is
free on
conditional
release after
the family put
up bail money
and a judge
signed the
release order.
If you will
recall, the
drunk driver
(identified by
his last name
Rivera), ran
into Lang who
has stopped at a
bus stop on the
autopista
Florencio del
Castillo, in the
Cartago
direction, in
front of the
Pasoca store.
The accident
occurred in the
early hours of
Sunday morning.
Rivera, was
found to have
blood alcohol
reading of 0.93
and was arrested
by Tránsito
officials and
was sentenced to
preventive
detention while
an investigation
continues.
Federico Campos,
Rivera's lawyer,
said Tatiana
García, signed
the release
after the family
put up a
property valued
at more than
¢120 million
colones and
ordered his
client to sign
in every week,
not to drive and
not to approach
the family of
the victim.
Erick Ramos,
lawyer for the
Lang family,
said that there
is a deal in the
works that would
end the
conflict.
Ramos was
referring to a
deal for
compensation for
the Lang family,
although the
deal is only in
the "talks"
stage and the
two sides have
yet to have a
face to face
meeting.
