Colombia Green Party Wins Potential Voters

BOGOTA - The leader of the Colombian Green Party, Antanas Mockus, reached a technical tie in popularity rating with his most dangerous rival in the presidential race, and stated his goal is to win in first electoral round. A poll by the National Consultancy Center (CNC) and CM News revealed that Mockus has climbed considerably in voting intentions, while

Conservative Noemi Sanin has lost popular support.

The study shows that the candidate for the ruling U party, Juan Manuel Santos, keeps leading polls, but the former Medellin's mayor follows him with only one percent point less.

According to political analysts and experts, if the margin of error is taken into account in the survey, Mockus could even lead voting intention for the general elections on May 30. A poll held last week evidenced that the former defense minister had 36 percent popularity rating, and the philosopher-mathematician 29 percent.

In the CNC new order, Mockus goes to the elections with 34 percent vote intention, and Santos with 35.

After the results were disclosed, the university professor said the Green Party must prepare more than ever to win in first round.
