Cantón Alfaro Ruiz Is Now Cantón Zarcero

The cantón de Alfaro Ruiz is now called Zarcero. The name change was made during the 95th year of the founding of the town. The name change has generated a variety of reactions from the community.

The Alajuela community located northwest of Naranjo has always been known as Zarcero, even the street signs and maps identify it as such, But that was the name of the town and not the cantón, whose real name was Alfaro Ruiz and now will also be known as Zarcero.

The cantón de Zarcero is the 11th of the province of Alajuela and is divided into 11 districts.

The area's activity is mainly agriculture.
