Colombia Espionage Could be
Taken to International Courts
BOGOTA - The presidential runner for
the Liberal Party, Rafael Pardo, said on
Monday he would resort to international
courts if needed to clarify the internal
political espionage issue in Colombia. If
the national justice fails to play an active
role in the matter, international courts
must assess the situation, the political
leader stated.
Pardo rated as abominable wiretapping during
the government of President Alvaro Uribe,
and said they contravene people's intimacy
and dignity.
El Espectador daily quoted the presidential
runner as saying in a release addressed to
the Attorney General that the Colombian law
must redouble efforts to bring to light all
details linked to the scandal.
In addition, Carlos Lozano, director of Voz
daily, stressed the Colombian society has
lost confidence on the Administrative
Department of Security (DAS) after
disclosures of wiretapping.
Several social organizations insist on the
need that the government clarifies
persecutions of leaders.
The controversy over internal espionage
worsened even more last week when the
Supreme Court of Justice announced it would
analyze denunciations linked to the
