Ibero-American Co-op Meeting
in Panama
PANAMA - The Ibero-American General
Secretariat (SEGIB) launched in Panama on
Monday an effort devoted to cooperation in
order to encourage the country''s
participation in all 27 programs implemented
by SEGIB.
At the opening ceremony, General Secretary
of SEGIB Enrique Iglesias highlighted the
significance of the meeting in Panama,
recalling that the nation takes part in 14
of those initiatives.
He said that the objective is to make public
the content of projects covering sectors
like education, public security, investment
and culture, with an executed budget of
about $60 million. Iglesias recalled that
Ibero-America has a great cultural potential
and there are programs precisely oriented to
support this sector in the region.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Juan Carlos
Varela announced that the government of
Panama is working in the creation of a
state-run body to coordinate all cooperation
actions.
Panama announced its willingness to join the
proposal to create a maternal milk bank to
confront the nutrition problem in premature,
low weight babies. |
