Traspaso De
Poderes May 8
Some 300 people
are busy working
in the La Sabana
park, readying
the stage,
seating and
public gallery
for the May 9 "traspaso
de poderes"
(transfer of
power) from
Oscar Aria to
Laura
Chinchilla.

Adrian
Chinchilla, who
is in charge of
the organizing
commission,
explained that
work started on
Monday for the
construction of
the main stage
that will be 50
metres by 20
metres, which
will be covered
to allow for bad
weather.
The event will
take place on
the north side
of the part,
immediately west
of the ICE
building,
adjacent to the
new national
stadium under
construction.
To date a large
number of
presidents from
Central and
South America,
as well as the
prince of Spain
have confirmed
attendance.
The presidents
of Colombia,
Álvaro Uribe
Vélez; Mexico,
Felipe Calderón
Hinojosa;
Panama, Felipe
Calderón
Hinojosa;
Guatemala,
Álvaro Colom
Caballeros; and,
Honduras,
Porfirio Lobo
Sosa, have all
confirmed their
attendance.
Conspicuously
missing from
Central and
South American
presidents is
Nicaragua's
Daniel Ortega.
In addition to
the Crown Prince
Felipe of Spain,
delegations from
Argentina,
India, Korea,
Leichtenstein,
Monaco, Italy,
Malta, among
others, have all
confirmed.
Also Jose Miguel
Insulza,
secretary
general of the
Organization of
American States
will be in
attendance,
along with the
secretary
general
Iberoamericana,
Enrique
Iglesias.
