Man Wins Overtime Lawsuit

A former employee of a mechanic's garage won the right to be compensated after he was fired for refusing to work overtime. The man was fired in 2005.

According to information by the Poder Judicial, the company is now required to pay the man ˘4.741.666 for back wages, severance and benefits.

The former employee was asked by his employer to stay overtime due to the unusual work load. The man said in his claim he voluntarily stayed and additional 45 minutes, when he told his boss that he was leaving.

The next day the man was fired.

According to the ruling, the court said that the man was not given notice or prior warning and as such is to be compensated for the immediate firing.
