Brazil, Germany to Boost
Bilateral Economic Ties
BRASILIA - The Brazilian Minister of
Development, Industry and Foreign Trade
Miguel Jorge and his
German colleague of Economy and Technology
Rainer Brüderle analyzed Tuesday here
broadening bilateral ties.
Both ministers headed the delegations of
businessmen from their respective nations
interested in discussing measures to
increase German participation in the
infrastructure work of the Program for the
Acceleration of Growth (GAP).
Germans have showed special interest in
investing in the High Speed Train plan
projected to link Sao Paulo and Rio de
Janeiro, the two main cities in this huge
South American country as well as the works
for the World Football Cup 2014 and 2016
Olympic Games, among others.
Official statistics show that after a
reduction of trade between Brazil and
Germany in 2009 due to the international
financial crisis that started in 2008
bilateral exchange has evidently recovered
during the first quarter of 2010.
Brazilian exports to the European nation
reached 1.62 billion during the first three
months of 2010, representing a 31.7 percent
growth if compared with the same period of
2009 with 1.23 billion dollars.
The main branches of bilateral commercial
ties are mechanic engineering, car industry,
electronics and chemical and pharmaceutical
products.
Energy, infrastructure, security, medical
attention and production and exploration of
oil and gas have gained space in the last
few years.
Finally German investments in Brazil
significantly grew in 2009 if compared to
2008, going from 1.30 billion dollars to
2.47 billion that represented a 138.5
percent increase. |
