Panamanian Disabled Swimmer
to Cross English Channel
PANAMA - Panamanian disabled swimmer
Cesar Barria will try to swim the 34
kilometers (21 miles) across the English
Channel, which separates Great Britain from
France in July.
According to the organizers of the event,
the crossing will begin in Dover (England)
and must end in Calais (France) in an
average time of 14 hours.
Barria has in his favor the experience of
having swum across the Strait of Gibraltar
in September 2008 and became the first Latin
American disabled (right leg amputated) to
achieve that goal.
In the case of the English Channel, the date
for Barria's attempt is still undetermined,
though it will take place between next July
16 and 23.
The Panamanian swimmer will have to fight
the low temperature of the water and the
ocean currents. |
