Sex Scandal In A
Convent In Costa
Rica!
The mere thought
of sexual
harassment in a
convent sends
shivers to many
while others are
hesitant to
believe it.
However, a 23
year old woman
has related her
story to the
daily DIARIO
EXTRA of how she
was sexually
harassed by
another aspiring
"novicia"
(novitiate).
The woman, whose
identity remains
hidden, says
that the other
women, coming
from a "fine"
San José family,
would take every
opportunity to
touch her, kiss
her, send her
love letters,
where she would
express her love
and desires for
her.
The young woman
assures that
although she
avoided her as
much as
possible, on
several
occasions the
other woman got
into her bed and
began to touch
and kiss her,
the stalker
overpowering her
and touching her
all over,
including her
private parts.
She explained
that the
situation got so
bad that she
turned to the
Mother Superior
for help, only
to he told that
there was
nothing that
could be done
against the
stalker and
found it to be a
waste of time
when the Mother
Superior told
her "I can't do
anything with
the weakness of
the flesh".
"I felt dirty,
used and a
sinner", says
the woman, who
then turned to
monseñor, Hugo
Barrantes,
Bishop of San
José, only to
finally to have
to resign from
the
congregation,
ending her and
her family's
dream of
becoming a nun.
The woman
further
explained that
she felt
threatened by
the Mother
Superior when
told that the
situation should
never be made
public, it
should be kept
as a secret of
confession and
that it would
only bring her
more problems.
Notwithstanding
the strong
advice of the
Mother Superior
to stay quiet,
the woman
decided to go
public in her
attempt for the
ecclesiastical
authorities
investigate and
to stop other
novitiates
having to quit
due to sexual
harassment.
