Police Raid
She would be at
the doorstep
begging fro
work, playing
the role of a
victim, in need
of a job to
maintain her
family. On the
streets, she
would stop
people offering
to wash their
clothes, wash
their dishes,
clean their
house, all in
the rouse of
desperately
looking for
work.
When she was not
hired, she would
beg for the
names of
neighbours,
friends or
relatives that
could give her
work.
Given she is a
foreigner in
Costa Rica, her
pleas for work
touched the
heart of many.

And when
she was
hired,
she
would
earn the
trust of
her
employers
and then
destroy
everything
in the
home and
never to
be seen
again.
Well,
yesterday,
in a
military
style
action,
police
raided
the home
and
captured
the 25
year old
woman
who is
believed
to have
been
responsible
have
struck
at least
six
homes,
all in
Heredia,
in the
last
year. |
The woman,
identified only
by her last
name, Arce, in
addition to the
destruction
would take what
she could carry
with her and
then start the
process all over
again.
Police
confiscated
valuables and
jewellery worth
some ˘5 million
colones, all
suspected to
have been taken
from the homes
of her former
employers.
The raid and
capture was a
result of
complaints by
the public and
several months
of investigation
by police,
locating the
woman living in
a house in San
Pablo de
Heredia, near
the Paseo de la
Flores mall.
Authorities say
that the woman
won the trust of
her employers,
who like many,
do not really
find out who is
working in their
house.
Many employers
do not take the
time to find out
if their maid is
really a good
person or a "servienta
ladrona" (servient
thief).
In the case of
the detained
woman,
authorities say
she would work
out for some
time, learning
fully the
movements of the
comings and
goings of her
employers,
earning their
trust and then
would steal them
blind.
