U.S. Offers Reward For
Capture of Colombian Drug Trafficker
BOGOTA - The U.S. State Department offered
on Wednesday a reward of us$5 million
dollars for information leading to the
arrest of one of the most-wanted drug
traffickers in Colombia.
Maximiliano Bonilla Orozco, alias "Valenciano",
"Futbolista" or "Jugador", was accused of
being the leader of a large transnational
network, which distributes "thousands of
kilograms of cocaine from Colombia, through
Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, to the
United States."
"It is believed that the organization uses a
network of storages and fake companies to
purchase fake or illegal shipments, which
are stored or transported with the drug to
hide the narcotic loads," the U.S. Embassy
in Colombia said in a statement.
Bonilla has been linked to the transport of
over 25 million dollars in drug-related
proceeds from the United States to Mexico,
according to the statement.
"There is an accusation against him at the
Eastern District of New York since 2008,"
the statement said.
"Since it launched the Narcotics Rewards
Program in the 1980s, the State Department
has paid more than 44 million dollars," the
U.S. embassy said. |
