Moderate Earthquakes Shake Concepcion, Chile

CONCEPCION, Chile - Two moderate earthquakes shook on Thursday morning the Chilean city of Concepcion, causing panic among the inhabitants.

The first earthquake was registered at 3:56 a.m. local time, measuring 5.1 on Richter scale, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The epicenter of this earthquake was located 50 kilometers in the sea, west to Concepcion with a depth of 35 km.

The second earthquake occurred at 9:41 a.m. local time and according to the Seismology Institute of the University of Chile, it measured 5.2 on Richter scale.

According to the Chilean National Emergency Office (Onemi), there were no reports of victims, disturbance to the basic services or damages to the infrastructure, however, there were partial blackout in some towns of the province.

At 4:04 a.m. local time, another earthquake of lower intensity affected the regions of Maule and Libertador General Bernardo O' Higgins.
