case of
Mesoamerica,
Mexico leads the
list with 6000
femicides.
This was
revealed data
submitted by the
Comisión
Internacional
contra la
Impunidad
(International
Commission
against
Impunity) in
Guatemala, as
explained days
earlier at the
Universidad de
Costa Rica

Costa Rica), by
its former
chief, Carlos
Castresana.
According to
Castresana,
passing laws is
not enough,
rather it
qualifies as a
"precondition".
According to the
figures by the
Comisión
Económica para
América Latina y
el Caribe (CEPAL),
last year 55% of
the female
population in
Mexico and
Central America
were victims of
some form of
violence against
them.
In Costa Rica,
35 women were
murdered in
2009, 128 since
2005 and 17.971
acts of violence
were reported to
the Ministerio
Público,
according to the
ección de
Estadística del
Departamento de
Planificación
and the
Instituto
Nacional de las
Mujeres (INAMU).
The INAMU
reports 26
femicides this
year, the last
case only a few
days ago
(Monday) in
