Former
President
Rodriguez
Chastised
By Court
For
Interfering
With
Witnesses
During
the
trial of
of
ICE-Alcatel
case,
the
judges
have
imposed
precautionary
measures
against
former
president
Miguel
Ángel
Rodríguez,
who with
others
faces
corruption
charges.
The
unusual
court
action
follows
a call
by
Rodríguez
to the
Secretary
General
of the
Organization
of
American
States
(OAS),
José
Miguel
Insulza,
not to
take
part in
a video
conference
call
with a
witness.
Insulza
was in
Costa
Rica at
the
beginning
of the
week to
meet
with
presidenta
Laura
Chinchilla
while on
tour of
several
countries
in Latin
America.
The
court
has
ordered
Rodríguez
to not
take
similar
actions
to
interfere
with
witnesses
or with
the
judicial
process
directly
or
indirectly.
Rafael
Gairaud,
lawyer
for
Rodríguez,
said he
would
appeal
the
court
order.
The
trial
continues
on
Monday
when
more
witnesses
against
Rodríguez
and
others
will
take the
stand.
