Unemployment
in
Venezuela
Closes
Nine
percent
in
October
CARACAS
- The
National
Statistics
Institute
(INE) of
Venezuela
said
Monday
that
unemployment
in
October
closed
at nine
percent
of the
working
force.
The
figure
represents
an
increase
of 0.6
percentage
points
compared
to the
situation
in
September,
said the
INE.
Despite
this
increase,
the INE
remember
that the
number
of
unemployed
people
remains
well
below
the
figures
in 1999
(15.3
percent),
when
Hugo
Chavez
took
office.
Beyond
short-term
fluctuations,
the
employment
sector
has
taken
steps
forward
towards
the
consolidation
of
productive
sectors
of the
Venezuelan
economy,
growing
the
formal
employment
from
46.9
percent
in 1999
to 56.5
in this
year,
according
to INE
report.
