Remains
Open To
Options
In Face
Of
Nicaragua's
Rejection
To
Dialogue
Costa
Rica's
Foreign
Minister,
Rene
Castro,
yesterday
lamented
the
rejection
of the
government
of
Nicaragua
to its
latest
proposal
to
dialogue
on their
border
dispute.
In
Cancun,
Mexico,
attending
the
United
National
conference
on World
Climate
Change,
Castro
assures
that the
lines of
communications
are
always
open and
will to
listen
options
by
mediators
of the
organization
of
American
States
(OAS).
"We had
hoped to
take
this
opportunity,
looking
for a
positive
answer
and
possibly
suggesting
a change
of
mediator
or
facilitator",
said
Castro.
Nicaragua
flatly
refused
the
meeting
that was
scheduled
for
December
20 in
Liberia,
Guanacaste.
Nicaraguan
president,
Daniel
Ortega,
said
that the
case is
before
the
International
Court
and that
they had
no
business
going
there
(to
Costa
Rica's
mediated
talks".
Ortega
refuses
to
recognize
the OAS,
flat out
defying
two OAS
requests
to
remove
his
troops
from the
disputer
border,
saying
that the
OAS is
not a
competent
body to
deal
with the
border
dispute.
Castro
explained
that "if
they do
not want
it to be
the OAS,
it could
be a
group of
friends
or
countries...
we
remain
open to
options".
