Last Day
To Pay
Aguinaldo
Employers
take
note of
three
important
dates
for the
end of
the
year,
one of
them is
today,
December
20, the
last day
to pay
employees
their
aguinaldo
or
Christmas
bonus.
Employers
who do
not
comply
expose
themselves
to stiff
fines if
the
employee
files a
complaint
with the
Ministerio
de
Trabajo
(Labour
Ministry).
The
aguinaldo,
for
simplicity
sake, is
the
average
of one
month's
pay for
all
salaries
between
December
1, 2009
to
November
30,
2010.
Employers
have all
keep in
mind
that
December
25 and
January
1 are
legal
holidays
in Costa
Rica and
employees
who are
required
to work
on those
days
will
receive
double
their
normal
pay.
According
to
Article
148 of
the
Código
de
Trabajo,
the two
days are
"pago
obligatorio".
