Traditional
Year End
Fair "Zapote"
Is A Go
As it
occurs
every
year,
the
Zapote
fair is
touch
and go
until
the
ministerio
de Salud
(ministry
of
Health)
gives
the
green
light,
which
more
like a
tradition,
does not
happen
right up
to the
last
day,
sometimes
even
hours
before
people
start
arriving.
In
keeping
the
tradition
this
year was
no
different.
Guillermo
Flores
Galindo,
director
de la
Central
Sur del
Ministerio
de Salud,
confirmed
that on
Thursday
the
municipalities
of San
José and
Curridabat
presented
the
missing
requirements.
"The
requirements
were met
at the
last
minute
and the
health
permits
were
issued",
said
Flores.
One of
the last
requirements
was the
agreement
with the
Fuerza
Pública
(police)
on the
required
number
of
officials.
Keeping
the fair
grounds
secure
will 200
Fuerza
Pública
officers,
working
together
with 120
Municipal
police
officials.
Flores
explained
that the
Salud
will be
taking
some 40
food
samples
daily
that
will be
sent to
a
laboratory
for
analysis.
"If
there is
any
contamination,
we will
act
immediately,
that is
shut
down the
food
stand
and if
specific,
confiscate
the
contaminated
products",
explained
Flores.
Other
than the
riding
of the
bulls,
the
games,
crowds
and the
megabars,
fast
food is
part of
the
Zapote
tradition..
The
Salud
officials
two
items
that
usually
present
health
problems
at fairs
is
"cabbage"
and
"ice",
mainly
due to
their
improper
handling.
The
Zapote
fair
kicks
off at
noon
tomorrow
(Christmas
Day) and
runs
until
January
2, 2011.
