Day In
Costa
Rica Is
In
December
April
Fools'
Day is
celebrated
in the
Western
world on
April
1st of
every
year. In
Spanish-speaking
countries,
similar
pranks
are
practiced
on
December
28, día
de los
Santos
Inocentes,
the "Day
of the
Holy
Innocents".
In Spain
and
Latin
America
December
28 it is
a
holiday
in its
own
right, a
religious
one, but
the
tradition
of
pranks
is not,
though
the
latter
is
observed
yearly.
After
somebody
plays a
joke or
a prank
on
somebody
else,
the
joker
usually
cries
out, in
some
regions
of Laitn
America:
"Inocente
palomita
que te
dejaste
engañar"
(You
innocent
little
dove
that let
yourself
be
fooled).
In Spain
it is
common
to say
just "Inocente!"
(Innocent!).
Pranks
are
known as
inocentadas
and
their
victims
are
called
inocentes,
or
alternatively,
the
pranksters
are the
"inocentes"
and the
victims
should
not be
angry at
them,
since
they
could
not have
committed
any sin.
In Costa
Rica,
the
Spanish
language
daily
offered
it
version
of the
reasons
for all
the
congestion
on the
Virilla
"platina"
bridge,
the use
of
skimply
clad
women
construction
workers!
The
congestion,
we can
only
surmise,
is not
due to
lane
closures,
machinery
or the
platina
itself,
but
rather
caused
by
rubberneckers
ogling
the
butts of
the
women
hard at
work
(posing).
Of
course
this
also
explains
why the
bridge
repair
has been
ongoing
for
sixteen
months
and the
need to
bring in
a real
crew
that
will
finish
the work
in less
than 10
weeks.
