Bolivia Seriously Hit
by Heavy Rain
LA PAZ -
The Bolivian Government confirmed on Sunday
that heavy rain and floods leading to
announce a national emergency are seriously
affecting the whole South American country.
According to Deputy Minister of Rural
Development Victor Hugo Vasquez, at least
21,626 acres of land have been affected.
However, he added that this situation is far
from threatening food security and does not
justify a rise in prices of farm products.
The meteorology department said more rain is
expected and the number of affected crops
may increase to 34,592 acres.
Vasquez made sure food production for
domestic market is guaranteed at fair prices
and said that the Ministry of Rural
Development and Land is working in
agricultural and livestock rehabilitation
through a permanent coordination with
worst-hit municipalities, mainly in the
country's eastern areas. |
