Transport Strike Rejected in Venezuela

CARACAS - The Socialist Assembly of Venezuelan Transport Workers rejected the call to a general strike in transportation because they consider it a call against its people.

According to that group spokesman Felix Jaramillo, drivers and transport workers in general won't allow other groups to stop that service.

He commented to Venezolana de Television channel that the strikers may stop four or five cars, but he and the people are going to counterattack them in Caracas and in the rest of the country.

He also warned that everywhere the strikers stop the service they will go with their units and will establish it again.

The striker's intentions are related to the supposed governmental rejection towards the discussion of raising ticket prices.

Jaramilllo said that the best way to solve the problem is to promote a national dialogue with different social groups included.

He pointed out that the government is not against raising ticket prices, but to get that raise, is better to debate the topic without interrupting the service.
