Lady To Be Speaks Out On Historic Role
José María Rico, the husband of
president-elect, Laura Chinchilla, assures
that they he and his son will face the
challenge of living with the president, as a
family and that for them she will continue
to be a wife and an excellent mother.
Rico, who will have the distinction of being
the country's "first lady" is seen as
accessible, friendly and says he will be
helping out his wife without getting in the
way.
Laura's husband dismissed any possibility
that he would be involved in any way in his
wife's government and that life with Laura
won't be any different than in the past.
When it comes to their only child, José
María said that "both" are involved in his
school work, looking over his homework,
adding that their son knows well that his
first responsibility is to his school work,
after which he can blog with his friends.
José María said there are no plans to change
their son's school or major changes in their
lives now that his wife will take over as
the country's president. "Surely there will
be some changes", mostly referring to his
wife's absence from the country, which the
family's responsibilities then fall totally
on him.
"We have to improvise as things come up",
said the husband of Costa Rica's first woman
president.
