TEGUCIGALPA - Two moderate earthquakes on Thursday damaged at least 30 houses in northeastern Honduras, the Permanent Commission of Emergencies (COPECO) said.

According to the COPECO, the first earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale was registered in Yoro province at 11:43 a.m. local time (1743 GMT). The second with a magnitude of 6.1 hit the same province 13 minutes later.

The tremors were also felt in central Honduras.

Fifteen of the damaged houses were in Lotiwi community, and another 15 were in Guadalupe community, said COPECO Commissioner Julio Cesar Cruz, adding that local emergency committees had been activated following the quakes.
