Earthquakes Damage
Houses In Northeast Honduras
TEGUCIGALPA - Two moderate earthquakes on
Thursday damaged at least 30 houses in
northeastern Honduras, the Permanent
Commission of Emergencies (COPECO) said.
According to the COPECO, the first
earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter
scale was registered in Yoro province at
11:43 a.m. local time (1743 GMT). The second
with a magnitude of 6.1 hit the same
province 13 minutes later.
The tremors were also felt in central
Honduras.
Fifteen of the damaged houses were in Lotiwi
community, and another 15 were in Guadalupe
community, said COPECO Commissioner Julio
Cesar Cruz, adding that local emergency
committees had been activated following the
quakes.
