Chavez Wants To Hold
Presidency To 2030
CARACAS - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
on Friday said he wanted to govern the
country till 2030, to consolidate his
socialist project against capitalism.
His statement came during the closing
celebration of Youth Day, which began on
Friday morning with a march of thousands of
his followers, and ended at noon in
Miraflores Palace, the government
headquarters.
"The Venezuelan Socialism is just being
born, but it is polluted by many vices
including corruption and selfness," Chavez
said.
The young people are the soul of the
Socialist Revolution, he said, criticizing
the opposition for manipulating them and
using them to protest against his government
and "even to destabilize the country."
Chavez praised the performance of the
Venezuelan youth at the international sports
events, including the Venezuelan women's
national football team under-17, which was
qualified to participate in the world game
to be hosted in Trinidad and Tobago.
Venezuela will be a world power because at
mid-century, it will have 50 million
inhabitants, he said. |
