Walmex Closes Central America Deal

Wal-Mart de Mexico (Walmex) has bought Wal-Mart Centroamerica from its parent company, Wal-Mart Stores and regional investors, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The Mexican subsidiary of Wal-Mart funded the acquisition with 604 million shares and $109.8 million cash.

Some regional Wal-Mart Centroamerica investors sought payment in cash. The deal has added 519 stores to Walmex’s existing 1,477 stores and has opened access to the operations in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
