Russian Diplomat in
Guatemala
GUATEMALA - In his third stop of his Latin
American tour, Russian Foreign Minister
Serguei Lavrov is carrying out a working
visit to Guatemala on Monday that includes a
meeting with President Alvaro Colom.
Lavrov, who arrived in this capital on
Sunday night from Nicaragua and visited Cuba
before, will sign an accord to fight drug
trafficking and the organized crime, and
tackle affairs related to bilateral links.
Media sources from the Foreign Affairs
Ministry reported that the European visitor
expects to meet also with Congress'
President Roberto Alejos, and capital's
Mayor Alvaro Arzu, former President of the
Republic.
Lavrov's agenda also includes a working
meeting with his Guatemalan peer Haroldo
Rodas, to ink the above mentioned agreement,
and a press conference. His objective is to
announce cooperation advances between both
nations in the economic, trade and
humanitarian spheres, the sources said.
After concluding his visit to this country,
Lavrov will travel to Mexico, last visit in
his Latin American tour.
Due to the delay in Congress to approve the
national budget for 2010, definitively not
decided yet, Colom should have suspended in
November an official visit to Russia that is
expected to be rescheduled. |
