Prosecuting Attorney Resigns
LIMA - District Attorney Avelino Guillen,
who played an important role in sentencing
former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori,
announced on Wednesday his resignation due
to maneuvers by the ruling American
Revolutionary People''s Alliance (APRA),
according to his statement.
Guillen stated that he presented his
resignation for having being disapproved,
with no justification and for political
reasons, in a test carried out by the
National Judicial Council to fill a vacancy
at the Supreme Prosecutor's office.
He explained that the test consisted in
presenting the corruption case of Fujimori's
advisor Vladimiro Montesinos bribe to an
opposition parliamentarian in 2000 and the
exposure in a video hastened the end of a
decade under that regime.
It is a individual that Guillen perfectly
knew since he was the prosecutor in the
trial and sentenced the acussed, which was a
similar result to that he obtained in 98
percent of the corruption cases he has been
